Air21 has tapped veteran 6'2 import Geremy Robinson as temporary import for the 36th Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner Cup, according to new coach Bong Ramos.
Robinson, 31, who played for the Express in 2002, will lead the Air21 Express when they play the San Miguel Beermen, who will parade import Ira Brown, in their first game on Friday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Even if Robinson submits impressive statistics, Air21 is still considering to bring in Alpha Bangura, who still has some unfinished business with his Lebanese club
Robinson, who played for University of Hawaii, rushed from Honolulu only on Wednesday after failing to have Bangura in the country in time for the Express’ debut in the mid-season tourney.
“We’ve told the boys that they have to step up. We can’t expect much from our import who has just come in,” said team manager Allan Gregorio.
Air21’s original import Jajuan Smith was sent home earlier after failing to impress the coaching staff. Gregorio suggested Bangura to be the team’s import.
Ramos is hoping his players will play with their system when they take on the well-talented San Miguel Beer squad. Ramos is back with the Lina Group ball club, assuming the job left by coach Yeng Guiao on his transfer to Rain or Shine.
Center Jay-R Reyes and Reed Juntilla, transferees from Rain or Shine and Meralco, make their initial outing with the Express while Leo Avenido is back with Air21.
Rookies Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Nonoy Baclao and Rey Guevarra are expected to deliver big games against San Miguel Beer along with veteran teammates Wynnie Arboleda, Wesley Gonzales, Carlo Sharma and Josh Urbiztondo, among others.
The Express will try to stop former Express Arwind Santos, Anthony Jay Washington, Alex Cabagnot, Dorian Pena, Danny Ildefonso and Dondon Hontiveros, among others from scoring. |
