AIR21 made a supreme sacrifice last week but got the deserving price in return.
The Express unloaded superstars Ronjay Buenafe, injured Ronnie Matias and Eric Rodriguez via three-way trade for the coming Philippine Basketball Association second conference involving the Rain or Shine Elasto Paintmasters and Meralco. Air21 team governor Johann Ramos told this website that the Express are looking to strengthen their frontline with the arrival of 6"7 Reyes, who averaged at least 12 points and eight rebounds last conference for Rain or Shine. "We are very excited to have Jay-R in our line-up but we need to release somebody to get him," said Ramos, noting also that spitfire Reed Juntilla was also acquired by the Express in that trade. "We are hoping for the best this conference." Buenafe and Matias plus 2011 and 2013 first round draft picks were traded to Rain or Shine for Reyes, while Meralco received Solomon Mercado and Paolo Bugia from Rain or Shine, which will now be coached by former Air21 mentor Yeng Guiao. Air21 also got Juntilla and Beau Belga plus the 2011 and 2013 first round draft picks from Meralco in exchange for Eric Rodriguez.
Belga, on the other hand, was shipped by the Express to Rain or Shine as part of the three-way deal. Air21, according also to Ramos, will shipped burly center JR Quinahan to the Powerade Tigers in exchange of 2014 first round draft rights on Monday. Bong Ramos, the new mentor of the Express, welcomes the new developments. |
